Change Online
Even before the Covid pandemic, it had become clear that online therapy sessions are very effective in many situations and offer advantages such as availability, flexibility and efficient use of time wherever you are.
Some online platforms such as Zoom etc. offer useful tools such as shared whiteboards and screenshots that help clarifying what is talked about in the sessions.
My experience with online sessions has been very positive. Please consider this way of getting support.
What can I do to get the greatest benefit out of online sessions?
Tip #1:
Take a bit of time for yourself before and after the sessions to calm down and reflect. This can also help you think about what is most important to you for the meeting and what you want to take away from it. Maybe make yourself a coffee or tea while you prepare.
Tip #2:
Create some privacy. Family, colleagues, and even pets should take a back seat during this time. This time is just for you.
Tip #3:
If available, use a device with a larger screen than a mobile phone (e.g., a tablet or laptop). Although it’s perfectly possible to make online sessions effective via a phone, a larger screen makes things a bit easier, such as when sharing visual materials.
Tip #4:
Keep a notebook and pen handy to jot down thoughts, insights, and tips that seem important to you during the meeting.
Tip #5:
Quickly check your internet connection, battery level, microphone, and speakers/headphones. Also, ensure your device is positioned on a stable surface. This simple preparation routine only takes a minute or two but helps you fully focus on the session and what you want to take away from it.
**Just give it a try**
If the idea of online sessions feels unfamiliar, it might be worth simply trying it out. There’s a very good chance that it will feel more comfortable and useful than you might expect.
