Hypnotherapy
Admittedly, there is a lot of misinformation about hypnosis around as it has been misrepresented in films and by entertainers for show hypnosis purposes (BIG SHOW, small hypnosis).
Actually , hypnosis is a natural process our brains are capable of. It can be seen as a process where the mind achieves:
1) Focused attention
2) Disattention to external stimuli (e.g. ignoring background noises without getting distracted)
3) Absorption in some internal image, thought, insight or feeling
Looking at it in this way you can see how it overlaps with daydreaming or getting really absorbed in a film, book, music, conversation or activity. Just like in the mentioned examples, full control is always with the person experiencing hypnosis. Just as noone can get forced to get absorbed in a movie against their will, noone will ever enter or stay in hypnosis unless they want to.
Hypnotherapy means utilising the natural properties of hypnosis described above to successfully achieve therapeutic goals by combining hypnosis with individually tailored suggestions, guided imagery and other therapeutic approaches. Many contemporary therapeutic techniques were actually pioneered by famous hypnotherapists such as psychiatrist Milton Erickson.
One more important thing about hypnotherapy: it actually feels good and effortless.
