Positive Psychotherapy
Positive Psychotherapy developed as a therapeutic approach out of Positive Psychology. The name may conjure up the assumptions that it is about 'positive thinking' or telling yourself mantras that you and the world are happy, happy, happy.
However, Positive Psychology is actually a branch of science that uses research to understand what creates wellbeing in people, emphasising that mental and physical wellbeing is not just the absence of suffering.
Positive Psychotherapy applies this knowledge by developing and teaching practical ways to actively promote wellbeing. It has influenced many modern approaches to therapy such as ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). It can be combined with other approaches or used on its own. Many people who have tried it report that the exercises and techniques are especially fun and rewarding.
